Working Without a Script

Languages: English
Length: 14:00

The Second City is well known for their improv comedy, their TV shows, and their scores of famous alumni. But what do you and The Second City have in common? Both of you improvise every day!

Second City Communications has facilitated successful business training for over 45 years. Their training program, Working Without A Script, teaches how the basics of improvisation will help your organization communicate better, build stronger teams, and create a positive work environment. Just like an improv troupe, organizations need to know how to work together when the plan doesn't go as planned.

Hosted by Keegan-Michael Key, TV personality and Second City alum, along with a talented ensemble cast, Working Without A Script emphasizes that good communication starts with a "yes, and" philosophy. "Yes, and" means embracing and building upon new ideas. It fosters open mindedness and empowers people to think on their feet and take risks.

When an organization commits to the "yes, and" philosophy, good things will happen!

Comedy and business? I love it! The Second City showcases their improv talent in this short, fast-paced communication program to illustrate the importance of thinking on your feet and affirming and building one another's ideas to improve communication and increase creativity in business. I particularly like the "yes, and" philosophy and if that's the only thing viewers take away from this, the investment in this training will have been worthwhile.

    PROS
  • Program is fun
    CONS
  • Improv sections add interest and fun to the program but interrupts the flow sometimes.

It's humorous approach and silly vignettes culminate into a nicely blended Second City cocktail. What really makes this film stand apart is the humorous metaphors, such as a nun and a school boy trying to teach a more positive work attitude, and the use of the trapeze, and silly mustaches, to highlight the concept of trust and support within a team atmosphere. This film is 15 minutes long and goes straight to the point, making the 'Yes, and' a consistent theme throughout the humorous vignettes to support a serious and important concept, team work and building on ideas.
