Different Like You video

The opening of this film immediately captured my attention. But, while the content is strong, it was hard to stay focused for the full 20 minutes. The learning points and scenarios provide good springboards for discussion though.

PROS
• The opening segment of people on the street sharing their thoughts about diversity illustrates just how different -- but alike -- we all are..
• Strong content and good supporting scenarios.

CONS
• A bit dry and too long.

The opening and closing scenes about the ruler are not very effective in getting across the point of the importance of change. The part on the value of diversity training and relating it to the bottom line is very effective. People tend to take training more seriously when they can see it's importance and relating diversity training to increased productivity is a good way of doing it. I like the approach of seeing people as indivduals rather than attempting to describe traits of different ethnic groups. That can be dangerous. In summary, I think the film can be a valuable part of a diversity training program. One suggestion, put in some pausees so facilitators can engage participants in further discussion on individual points.
