What started out as an ordinary commercial flight from Denver to Chicago, turned into a catastrophic situation with a miraculous outcome.

While en route, United Flight 234 experienced engine failure resulting in the loss of all hydraulic power to the aircraft. With only 2 engines remaining, Captain Al Haynes and his flight crew managed to bring the plane into a crash landing at Sioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, Iowa.

While some passengers were lost, 184 survived as a result of a remarkable confluence of events, including the disaster preparedness of the rescue crews on the ground, the flight crew in the air, and the air traffic controllers, who worked together to achieve results that in all respects beat the odds.

The Teamwork in Crisis training video utilizes interviews with key players of this mission, along with actual footage of the incident to illustrate the importance and the value of teamwork under any condition.

My favorite part of this training film is that it discusses teamwork when things are going wrong. It talks about how to pull together in times of crisis and how to act to minimize the negative outcome. It's very real and practical. I had trouble accepting the first learning point; some viewers may also have difficulty buying into the idea of luck as part of teamwork.

    PROS
  • Believable and moving.
  • Having a survivor narrate the film offers passion about the topic.
    CONS
  • Viewers with strong spirituality and faith may have difficulty buying into the first learning point, luck.
